Adam Kelsey Wins Young Engineer of the Year 2012

West Yorkshire engineering firm, Group Rhodes celebrates yet another award, as design engineer Adam Kelsey wins the MTA Manufacturing Industry Award for the “Young Engineer of the Year 2012”.

Adam received the award after demonstrating outstanding commitment, achievement and innovation in engineering. At only 23 years old, Adam Kelsey has this year taken the role of Lead Design Engineer and Project Manager for the production of a 1200 tonne Superplastic Forming/ Diffusion Bonding (SPF/DB) press. The SPF/DB press is valued at £2.2 million and will be supplied to a Chinese aerospace company. The press will be used to manufacture equipment and components for new civil aircraft, and so there is zero tolerance for error.

Adam joined Group Rhodes in August 2007, as a junior design engineer. He has since completed an OND in Mechanical Engineering (Distinction) and is currently in his third year of a B.Eng Honours degree in Mechanical and Computer Aided Engineering.

Technical director, and Adam\'s mentor, Peter Anderton, B.Sc (Eng) C. Eng, M. I. Mech. E, commented, "It is unusual to place such an important position on someone so young, however Adam has displayed outstanding technical and project management abilities” Peter added, “We are all very proud of Adam, the award is well deserved.”

He and his employer were delighted when he also won the AMTRI Scholarship, a cash fund provided by the machine tool engineering consultancy intended to promote excellence in engineering manufacturing. He will receive financial support to further his education and develop Company based research projects.
