Mechanical Service Engineer
- Field based with Head Offices at Calder Vale Road, Wakefield, West Yorkshire
- 37 hours a week
- 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday
- 8 am to 1 pm, Friday
- Overtime and weekend work where required
We are looking for a Mechanical Service Engineer to join our expanding team.
MAIN FUNCTION & SCOPE OF THE JOB:
Responsible to the Service Manager, the main responsibility of the role is to provide excellent service to our customers, nationally and sometimes overseas, with new/refurbished presses and preventative maintenance work.
MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Travelling extensively in the UK and abroad installing and commissioning new/refurbished presses, carrying out machine overhaul and preventative maintenance work.
- Problem-solving and fault finding on a variety of mechanical and hydraulic presses from pre-war to modern CNC-controlled presses.
- Carry out periodic service checks on customers' equipment.
- Safety working from cherry-pickers, scaffolding and other platforms in compliance with Working at Height Regulations (WAHR), training will be provided.
- Ensure safe use and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Observe and comply with Health & Safety and security requirements at all times.
- Responsible for the quality of the work produced and ensuring that all relevant quality procedures are understood and adhered to.
- Actively pursue continuous improvements in assembly methods and techniques and make recommendations for their implementation when appropriate.
- Maintain tidiness in the workplace, company vehicles and good standards of housekeeping.
- Provide cover for other duties and offer assistance in other areas as requested by the manager or his representative.
- Assist in the building of new presses in the factory when not working offsite.
- Be willing to learn new duties outside the normal function.

Qualifications
- Apprentice trained Mechanical Engineer (E)
- Electrical Engineering qualification (D)
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and understand hydraulic drawings (E)
- Excellent communication skills (E)
- Ability to work to tight deadlines (E)
- Ability to initiate new ideas/innovations where required (E)
- Full UK driver's license (E)
- Electrical knowledge would be advantageous (D)
- Knowledge of machine tool construction (D)
Experience
- Must have a flexible approach due to short-notice travel/weekend work. (E)
- Experience in hydraulic engineering (E)
- Previous experience in a field service position would be advantageous (D)
- Experience working within a machine build environment (D)
- Experience within a plant maintenance background (D)
