Electrical/Control Service Engineer

  • Field based with Head Offices at Calder Vale Road, Wakefield, West Yorkshire
  • 37 hours a week
  • 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday
  • 8 am to 1 pm, Friday
  • Overtime and weekend work where required

We are looking for an Electrical/Control Service Engineer to join our expanding team.

MAIN FUNCTION & SCOPE OF THE JOB:

Responsible to the Service Manager, the purpose of the role is to diagnose faults and provide effective diagnostic procedures to resolve automation and electrical faults and breakdowns.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Travelling throughout the UK, with some occasions of international work, you will be required to service and maintain specialist industrial machinery as well as the installation of new machines.
  • Working alongside our Mechanical Service Engineers on specific projects and routine maintenance/breakdown work.
  • Carrying out planned, preventative and maintenance of machines.
  • Assist in the building of new presses in the factory when not working offsite.
  • Problem-solving and fault finding on a variety of mechanical and hydraulic presses from pre-war to modern CNC-controlled presses.
  • Carry out periodic service checks on customers' equipment.
  • Safely working from cherry-pickers, scaffolding and other platforms in compliance with Working at Height Regulations (WAHR), training will be provided.
  • Ensure safe use and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with COSHH regulations.
  • Observe and comply with Health & Safety and security requirements at all times.
  • Responsible for the quality of the work produced and ensuring that all relevant quality procedures are understood and adhered to.
  • Actively pursue continuous improvements in assembly methods and techniques and make recommendations for their implementation when appropriate.
  • Maintain tidiness in the workplace, company vehicles and good standards of housekeeping.
  • Provide cover for other duties and offer assistance in other areas as requested by the manager or his representative.
  • Be willing to learn new duties outside the normal function.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

    Qualifications

    • Electrical Engineering qualification. (E)
    • Working at Heights certificate. (D)

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Programmable Logic Control (PLC) skills. (E)
    • Excellent communication skills. (E)
    • Ability to work to tight deadlines. (E)
    • Ability to initiate new ideas/innovations where required. (E)
    • Full UK driver's license. (E)
    • Mechanical knowledge would be advantageous. (D)

    Experience

    • Experience in fault diagnosis and repair of electro-mechanical/electronic systems. (Siemens/Allan Bradley) (E)
    • Experience with planned preventative maintenance. (E)
    • Must be proactive with a willingness to develop. (E)
    • Must have a flexible approach due to short-notice travel/weekend work. (E)
    • Experience in writing detailed service reports. (D)
    • Experience in hydraulic engineering. (D)
    • Previous experience in a field service position. (D)
