Technical Sales Engineer

  • 37 hours a week
  • 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday, with half an hour lunch break
  • 8am to 1pm, Friday

 We are looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join our expanding Hallamshire Engineering Services team. 

MAIN FUNCTION & SCOPE OF THE JOB:

To drive sustainable revenue growth for Hallamshire Engineering Services by developing new customer relationships, expanding existing accounts, and identifying new market opportunities, while delivering technically sound, commercially competitive proposals that protect margin and support long-term growth. 

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Proactively identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the material handling sector.
  • Grow and strengthen existing customer relationships to maximise revenue and long-term account value.
  • Improve the Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU) market position through focused sales activity and effective market penetration.
  • Prepare, implement, and deliver strategic sales and business development plans in collaboration with the senior leadership team.
  • Arrange and conduct technical sales visits to existing and prospective customers across the UK.
  • Build strong relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders within customer organisations.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and technical requirements in detail and prepare accurate, competitive technical and commercial proposals, including pricing, scope, and delivery assumptions.
  • Generate detailed cost estimates and quotations that align with customer needs while protecting margins.
  • Support the internal sales team to ensure consistent sales performance and effective follow-up of opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain CRM systems to manage opportunities, pipelines, and customer interactions effectively.
  • Establish and monitor core sales KPIs, providing regular performance updates and forecasts to the senior leadership team.
  • Research competitor activity and market trends to refine value propositions and differentiate HES solutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of realistic sales forecasts and annual budgets, ensuring targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop and promote sales tools to support spares, service, consignment stock, and preventative maintenance programmes, driving recurring revenue streams.

  • Proven track record in technical sales or business development within an engineering-led environment (material handling experience advantageous). (E)
  • Demonstrable ability to win new business and manage complex sales cycles. (D)
  • Strong capability to prepare and present technical and commercial proposals, quotations, and cost estimates. (D)
  • Commercially astute with clear focus on revenue growth, margin protection and customer value. (E)
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence decision-makers at all levels. (E)
  • Comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data. (D)
  • Highly motivated, organised, and willing to travel extensively throughout the UK. (E)
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills. (E)

Experience

  • Experience within a relevant business sector (E)
  • Extensive sales experience with a strong sales record (E)
  • Experience in planning and managing growth (E)
  • Experience in CRM systems, sales pipeline management, and performance reporting. (E)
