Craven Fawcett congratulates Scottish Squash on Commonwealth Games success

Wakefield-based brick making machinery manufacturer and one of Scottish Squash’s sponsors, Craven Fawcett is celebrating the success of Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart, who have achieved the Bronze medal in the Men’s Doubles in the Commonwealth Games.

Scottish Squash’s Greg and Rory faced Malaysia’s Yow Eain and Chee Wern Yuen during the match on 9th August in Birmingham.  This medal has been long awaited as the team last secured a medal in the Commonwealth Games in 1998.

Mark Ridgway OBE, CEO of Craven Fawcett, “Greg and Rory have done themselves and Scottish Squash proud.  It is a fantastic achievement winning Bronze in the Commonwealth Games, against such strong competition, in what was a very tough match.  We have been involved with supporting Scottish Squash for three years and are excited that this could open the floodgates to more medals in the future.”

The relationship between Craven Fawcett and Scottish Squash started in 2019, after the company helped to support the Springfield Scottish Squash Open in Edinburgh.  Then in March this year, Craven Fawcett pledged its commitment to the future of squash by sponsoring a new Young Referee Development Programme for Scottish Squash.  The announcement was aligned with the 2022 WSF World Doubles Squash Championships held in Glasgow.

The young referee initiative forms part of Scottish Squash’s future development programme that has already produced several highly ranked players. Scotland are previous winners of the men’s event at the WSF World Doubles Championships and now has several female players making their mark on the international stage.

Mark Ridgway adds: "We see supporting Scottish Squash as part of giving back to young people competing at a professional level.  This reflects our own initiatives at our factory in Wakefield to encourage and develop talented new engineers within our business.”
