Internal Technical Sales Estimator

  • Hours of Work: 37 hours a week
  • 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday, with half an hour lunch break

       8am to 1pm, Friday

 We are looking for a Internal Technical Sales Estimator to join our expanding Craven Fawcett team. 

MAIN FUNCTION & SCOPE OF THE JOB:

The purpose is to manage technical sales enquiries from receipt through to quotation and order handover, via historical data interpretation, liaising with customers, suppliers and internal teams.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Log, acknowledge and manage customer enquiries accurately and promptly.
  • Review historical records, drawings and technical data, interpreting and updating information in line with current engineering standards and customer requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and bills of materials to establish the scope, technical requirements and costs of enquiries.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers to formulate accurate, competitive and commercially viable customer quotations.
  • Prepare costing information, estimates and supporting documentation for customer enquiries.
  • Record and maintain all customer contact, enquiry details, quotations and follow-up activity within HubSpot.
  • Maintain effective document control and filing for all order-related records, including customer and supplier quotations, correspondence, drawings, costings and purchase documentation.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams to clarify technical and commercial requirements and resolve queries.
  • Attend customer premises when required to assess equipment, gather technical information and support the preparation of quotations.
  • Follow up outstanding quotations and works orders, monitoring progress and keeping customers and relevant internal teams informed.
  • Support the handover of accepted quotations into orders, ensuring technical, commercial and delivery requirements are clearly communicated.
  • Provide guidance, knowledge sharing and practical support with the training and development of other team members.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating, quotation and document-control processes.

        Qualifications

        • Relevant Level 3 technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing or a related discipline (E)
        • HNC/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related subject (D)
        • Relevant sales, estimating or commercial qualification (D)

        Skills & Knowledge

        • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, specifications and bills of materials in metric and imperial measurements (E)
        • Sound numerical and analytical skills to prepare accurate estimates and costings (E)
        • Understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes and supplier lead times (E)
        • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly (E)
        • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise multiple enquiries and meet deadlines (E)
        • Commercial awareness and an understanding of pricing, margins, supplier quotations and quotation validity (E)
        • Working knowledge of HubSpot or a comparable CRM system (D)
        • Working knowledge of CAD or SolidWorks (D)
        • Knowledge of crushers, presses, special-purpose machinery or similar capital equipment (D)

        Experience

        • Experience preparing costings/quotations from drawings, specifications and supplier information (E)
        • Experience of liaising with customers, suppliers and internal engineering or production teams (E)
        • Experience of managing enquiries, orders or works maintaining accurate records (E)
        • Experience of using CRM systems to record customer contact and sales activity (D)
        • Experience of researching legacy equipment, drawings or historical engineering records (D)
        • Experience of supporting the induction, coaching or training of colleagues (D)
